History of Bingo
The history of Bingo starts way back in the middle Italian year 1530 in which the State run lottery game called Lo Giuco de Lotto was originated. De Lotto then migrated to France in the late 1700s, very close in form called Le Lotto. Similar to the Bingo we know today, with playing cards, tokens and numbers read aloud.
Throughout the 1800's these lottery type of games with cards and numbers that spread quickly through Europe.
The Game We Know
In 1929, a game called Beano, the closest game to modern day bingo, was being played in carnivals near Atlanta, Georgia. The bingo game's tools consisted of dried beans, a rubber number stamp and some cardboard with numbers. A toy salesman named Edwin Lowe, watched the game where players exclaimed BEANO! if they filled a line of numbers on their card. Lowe introduced the game to his friends where one of them mistakenly yelled BINGO! in her excitement . Lowe's Bingo game was soon very popular and Lowe asked bought out competitors to allow him to call their games Bingo as well.
By the 1940's Bingo games had sprung up all over the United States with thousands of games being played every week. Today Bingo games can be found just about anywhere across the globe. This has been the short, history of bingo, from National Lottery in Italy to crazed obsession worldwide.
