A group calling themselves the Poker Players Alliance has managed to enlist the help of a former Senator for New York, who is known to be a very skilled poker player.
The Poker Players Alliance wants the former Senator from New York to talk with his friends in Washington and see if he can get their support in overturning the law or making an amendment that will exempt poker from the law, according to a report recently in the New York Times.
The law being discussed is the unlawful internet gambling ban that the president signed into law in October of 2006. the laws makes it illegal to use credit cards or online payment methods to place bets, it also makes the banks liable for transfers to and from its accounts to other financial institutions used for placing bets or paying back winnings.
According to the former Senator the law is unfair to those who can not afford to travel to the nearest casino, or can not take the time off of work, and now they can not even play in a casino or poker room on their little free time to try and relax and unwind.
The group, with the help of the Senator just made a deal with a large Lobbying group to help out their cause. The group is estimated to have over 160,000 members already.
